Greg Sheley - Head Coach
1999-present
sheleyg@lanecc.edu, 541-463-5548
Sheley has built the Titans program in his own image. His teams play aggressive, up-tempo basketball on offense, hardnosed man-to-man defense. Lane players have excelled in the classroom, in the community, and on the floor. The record of the program under Sheley’s leadership speaks volumes: 426 wins, the most wins by a Titan basketball coach; fifteen straight 20-win seasons; seven Southern Region Titles; the school’s first ever consecutive 30 win seasons 04-05 and 05-06; and fifteen straight NWAC Tournament appearances which includes a NWAC leading five championships. If all that isn’t enough, the team is currently 128-6 at home since 2001, which included an unprecedented 84 game home winning streak from 2002-11.
Sheley was named Lane’s fifth head basketball coach in the summer of 1999. Prior to Lane, Greg coached at Butte College in Oroville, CA (1992-98) where he had already established himself as one of the best young coaches in the game. While at Butte, his programs won three conference championships, made it to the State Championship tournament twice, had two 30 win seasons, and compiled a 161-67 record (.706).
During his college playing days, Sheley earned basketball and baseball letters and was twice selected to the all conference teams at Sierra Junior College before continuing his athletic career at California State University-Chico, where he was a guard/wing for the Wildcat’s basketball team. Sheley graduated from CSU-Chico with a BA in Physical Education in 1990 and later returned to receive his MA in 1995.
Greg was born December 8, 1966 in Chico, CA. Raised in Chico he was a high school standout in basketball and baseball at Chico High School. His wife, Sharrie, also works at Lane as a health instructor. They have three children: Kerrisa (20), Kaylin (16), and Nathan (10).
