Victories pile up for Lane at Titan Twilight

Daysha Simms-Garcia won two events, and Kavic Belcastro set a school record in the pole vault to lead a strong performance by the Lane track and field team at its Titan Twilight meet Thursday.

Simms-Garcia captured the 200 meters (26.17) and the 400 (59.16) as the Lane women won five events in the meet attended by eight college teams and a handful of running clubs. Other winners included Kylee O’Connor in the 100 hurdles (16.11), Madison Schell in the 3,000 steeplechase (11:59.29) and the 4x100 relay team.

On the men’s side Belcastro, a freshman from Central Linn, cleared 16 feet, 8 3/4 inches to set the record in the pole vault. Other winners included Rashad Swank-Jones in the 100 (10.71), Marcus Gaylor in the 200 (21.72), Jordan Thibodeaux in the 110 hurdles (15.19), Dakarai Hightower in the high jump (7-1 1/2), the 4x100 relay team (41.24), and the 4x400 team (3:25.36).

Northwest Christian picked up wins from Sierra Brown in the 1,500 (4:41.20), Anna Brooks in the 3,000 (10:43.12), Shanessa Applegate in the long jump (18-3), Bailey Dell in the javelin (150-1) and the 4x400 team (4:05.50).

Oregon also sent a contingent to the meet, picking up wins from Itohan Aikhionbare in the shot put (53-5 3/4) and discus (163-11), Madeline Middlebrooks in the hammer (184-8), T.J. Brassil inn the shot put (53-10 1/4) and Prenna Cullen in the discus (176-2). Oregon freshman Matthew Maton, competing unattached, won the 800 (1:50.73) and former Duck Jonathan Cabral won the 400 hurdles (53.82).
