Gabe Collins (Lane, Sophomore)

-- Event: 1,500m; Mark: 4:01, Event: 800m; Mark: 1:55 at Oregon Relays
Nominator Comments:

"If you happened to be at the Oregon Relays Saturday, you may have witnessed Gabe's 1500m race. He unfortunately did not finish due to getting tripped up 150m into the race and subsequently dislocated his knee. He was immediately rushed into emergency surgery to save his leg (his artery had been torn). He also tore several ligaments and the nerve appears to have been traumatized as well. Gabe showed tremendous courage during this very traumatic injury and continues to show amazing strength and fortitude as his road to recovery is going to be a long and difficult one. Gabe ran 4:01 and 1:55 the weekend before at the Chico Invite. I have no doubt he was going to run a personal best in this race, however it was not meant to be. I am nominating Gabe not for his athletic performance, but for the strength in character that he has shown during this difficult time."

Brianna Thompson (Lane, Freshman)
-- Event: Hammer; Mark: 111'02", Event: Shot Put; Mark: 38'09.5" at Cougar Open
Nominator Comments:

"Continues to improve in all throws. Lifetime best in the shot. Moves into third position in the NWAC rankings."
