Titans win soccer playoff opener, 3-1

Gwyn Anderson scored in the opening minute and Callie Lambert added a pair of goals as the Lane women’s soccer team defeated visiting Lower Columbia 3-1 in the first round of the Northwest Athletic Conference playoffs.

The Titans advance to play at Peninsula, the NWAC’s North Division champion, in the second round at noon Saturday.

Anderson opened the scoring for Lane with a goal at the 59-second mark and Lambert followed with a goal at 8:30 to give the Titans a 2-0 edge. Lower Columbia’s Kayla Willis cut the gap to 2-1 with a goal in the 19th minute before Lambert finished the scoring with a goal in the 27th minute. Danielle VanOrd provided the assists on both of Lambert’s goals.

The Red Devils could muster only two shots on goal.

In other first-round matches Wednesday, Tacoma beat Clackamas 1-0, Spokane drubbed Skagit Valley 5-1 and Whatcom edged North Idaho 1-0 in overtime.
