Lane Community College introduced two new fall sports programs on Saturday afternoon, and each of them found varying degrees of success in their respective debuts.

The Lane men’s soccer team and the Lane volleyball team each kicked off their 2016 campaigns with the Northwest Athletic Conference Fall Festival, held at the Willamalane Center in Springfield and Lane Community College.

Lane volleyball got plenty of experience in its first day of NWAC play, and went 1-3 in its opening four matches at the Willamalane Center. The Titans opened the day with a three-set loss to South Puget Sound to start the day, before bouncing back with a three-set victory over Yakima Valley.

The Titans later dropped matches against Edmonds (2-1) and Treasure Valley (2-0).

Evelyn Montoya led Lane with six kills against South Puget Sound, and Naomi Ricketts paced the Titans with five kills against Yakima Valley.

“Every game we play, you can just see them improving in different areas,” Lane coach Stephanie Willett said. “That’s why I’m glad for this tournament especially; we get to see so many NWAC teams, and you get to play so much and see what works and doesn’t work.”
