Titans finish 1-2-6 in NWAACC Decathlon, women 5-8 in Heptathlon

EUGENE, OR - After day 1 of the NWAACC Multi Event Championships, David Formolo was in second place only 61 points behind leader Mitch Kamstra from Spokane. Formolo (pictured) got 2910 points on day 2 and came out on top to claim the NWAACC Decathlon Title with 6177 points. He had the best marks in the 400m (52.77) and the pole vault (14' 7.25"-4.45m) to help seal his victory. Teammate Thomas Cranor finished seconds with 6046 points with the fastest time in the 110H (16.61). Kamstra from Spokane ended up in third with 5736 points, and Titan Jake Robertson held onto the sixth spot to finish with 5507 points.

On the women's side, sophomore Shayle Dezellem from Spokane held her top position throughout the competition and repeated as NWAACC Heptathlon Champion with 4532 points. Barry McLaren sat in seventh after day 1, but had a strong showing on the second day to move up two spots and finish fifth with 3773. McLaren had the fastest time in the final event (800-2:18) to finish out the competition. Teammate Shay Applegeate moved around spots throughout the competition, but eventually landed in eighth with 3628 points scoring 1 point for the Titans.

The rest of the NWAACC Championships will conclude on May 21-22 in Spokane, WA. Currently the Titans lead the team standings with 21 points, followed by Spokane with 8, and Clackamas with 5. On the women's side Spokane leads the point total with 10 points, followed by Mt. Hood (8), Olympic College (6), with Lane, Clackamas, and SWOCC tied all having 5 points. The rest of the Titan team will be competing at the Mt. Hood Twilight on Friday, 5/4 and/or the Oregon Twilight on Saturday, 5/5.
