Titan athletes battle heat on Day 1 of Oregon Relays

EUGENE, OR - With temps reaching the low 70s, races were a lot tougher for several athletes in the first day at Hayward Field.  Six men dropped out of the Men's 5k @ 4:05pm, but Jacob Berkner (pictured) held on to run a strong PR of 15:05 and finish 4th.  Rachel Jensen ran a tough 1500 and is starting to come around after 2 weeks off b/c of mono; she ran 4:45, just 0.4 seconds off her PR.  Barry McLaren had a strong first 800 on the year running 2:20 to qualify for NWAACCs.  Elias Gedyon finished well in the 1500 to run 3:52 to officially open his season.  Gylany Crossman ran a PR of 17:40 in the 5k after a week and half off from being sick.  Branden Helms finished fifth in a season-best 21.79 in the fast section of the Men's 200.  Allie Church also ran a season-best 25.55 in the Women's 200.  Two Titans competed in the Men's discus.  Will Kunkle got a season-best throw of 155' 06" (47.40m), and Danny Parks got a PR of 146' 06" (44.68m) to finish 4th and 7th respectively. Shay Applegate PRed in the Long Jump to finish second with a best jump of 18' 0.50" (5.50m).  Lane has several more athletes who will be competing on Saturday with Collegiate events starting at 11am.  Please check link for full results from other Titan races on Friday night.
