Former Lane Community College coach Donny Harrel has been hired by Seattle University as head baseball coach to restart the program after two decades.

Harrel, who served as an assistant at Washington the past four years, will begin the program in the 2009-10 season. The school is in the reclassification process toward NCAA Division I status.

Harrel is a North Bend graduate who spent three years playing in the Kansas City Royals organization, including the 1990 season with the Eugene Emeralds. He compiled a 220-90 record at Lane Community College and led the Titans to the NWAACC championship in 1999.
