Lane sweeps Southern Region titles

Meg Jackson won three events, and Lane swept the men’s and women’s titles at the NWAC Southern Region track and field championships on Saturday at Lane’s track facility.

Jackson won the shot put with a toss of 37 feet, 9 1/2 inches, leading a 1-2-3-4 sweep for Lane along with Miranda Conley, Sydney Belcastro and Sierra Carrier, and added victories in the hammer (133-6) and javelin (128-11) to lead the Titans to a team total of 267 1/2 points, well ahead of second-place Clackamas, which finished at 169. Clark was third with 119.

The Lane men won the regional title with 292 1/2 points, Clackamas was second at 178 1/2 and Southwestern Oregon was at third with 88.

The Lane women also got victories from Toni Hall in the high jump (5-2 1/2) and Mikena Shay in the pole vault (11-11/2).

On the track, Emily Viuhkola led a 1-2-3 sweep, with Trisha Liaw and Olivia Lane, in the 400 meters, winning in 57.32 seconds, and added a victory in the 1,500 in 4:54.25. Jaena Goddard won the 200 in 26.79.

The Lane men were powered by a pair of 1-2-3 sweeps on the track. Jacoby McNamara led a sweep in the 200, winning in 22.61 seconds, followed by Cornelious Berry (22.69) and Damien Williams (22.82), and Moises Martinez won the 1,500 (4:03.33), followed by Michael Martin (4:04.09) and Jake Littrell (4:09.24).

Other winners on the track for the Titans included Berry in the 400 (49.93) and Seth Anders (15.11) in the 110 hurdles. The Titans also won the 4x400 relay in 3:24.74.

In the field, Justin Petz won the pole vault, clearing 16-8 and leading a sweep of the top four places by the Titans, Nick Sieber won the discus (144-6) and hammer (144-8) and Tristan James won the long jump (24-1 3/4).

The Titans will compete in the NWAC Championships beginning May 22 in Gresham.
