Lane Hires New Baseball Coach

Lane Community College is excited to announce the hiring of Joshua Blunt as its new Head Baseball Coach.  "Lane is very fortunate to have Josh lead our baseball program into the future.  He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience with him," said Athletic Director Greg Sheley.

Josh began his collegiate coaching experience at North Florida Community College in Madison, Florida. During his two year stay, they compiled an overall record of 98-44.  His recruiting classes had 10 players sign Division I scholarships and 7 players sign professional contracts.

During his three years at Okaloosa-Walton Community College in Niceville, Florida, OWCC won the conference and placed second. In 2001, his recruiting class was voted the top incoming team in the NJCAA poll. While at OWCC, Coach Blunts recruiting classes averaged 9 drafted players and nearly 5 players that signed with a Division I school.

After his successful time at OWCC, Coach Blunt went to Sam Houston State, in Huntsville, Texas, as an assistant coach.  He oversaw catcher’s and hitters. While in charge of hitting at Sam Houston, the team’s batting average jumped almost 60 points.

In 2003-04, Coach Blunt began his first season as associate Head Coach at Cabrillo College in Aptos California.  His  primary responsibilities were hitter’s, infielder’s, catcher’s and serving as the third base coach for the Seahawks.

Coach Blunt most recently served as the Head Coach at West Valley Community College, in Saratoga California. His teams won their conference in two consecutive years and went to the California State Final Four in 2008 with the State’s best record of 40-10. His combined total record at West Valley College was 167-75.

"I am extremely grateful and excited for this opportunity to come coach at Lane Community College, said Coach Blunt.  "I was very impressed with the direction and vision for the baseball program by Athletic Director, Greg Sheley and Division Dean, Chris Hawken.  We look to continue the successful tradition at Lane by competing for the NWAACC championship."

Coach Blunt earned a Bachelor’s degree in History from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 1997 and a Master's degree in Kinesiology from Valdolsta State in 1999.
