Lane decathletes go 1-2 in California

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — Lane’s Wyatt Thompson-Siporen and Grant Shurtliff went 1-2, respectively, in the decathlon at the Jim Klein Multi track and field meet on Friday at Westmont College.

Thompson-Siporen finished with 6,764 points, and Shurtliff was second with 6,750. Both qualified for the NWAC Championships.

Thompson-Siporen won the discus with a toss of 136 feet, 10 inches and the pole vault, where he cleared 14-9.

Shurtliff went 14-1 1/2 in the pole vault to finish second and finished third in the discus at 118-9.
