James sets school mark for Lane track

CHICO, Calif. — Tristan James leapt 49 feet, 4 1/2 inches to break a school record in the triple jump that had stood for 22 years, leading Lane to second place in the men’s division at the Chico State Twilight track and field meet on Saturday.

James led a 1-2-3 finish in the event with Grant Shurtliff (45-1/4) and Pavel Specht (44-8 1/4). The Titans finished with 142 points as a team, second behind Chico State (184 1/2).

Also Saturday, Justin Petz won the pole vault, clearing 15-11 3/4, and Cornelious Berry won the 400 meters in 49.44 seconds.

In the women’s half of the meet, Lane’s Meg Jackson won the javelin with a toss of 135-10, and Emily Viukhola won the 800 in 2:14.99 to help the Titans finish fourth with 85 points. Chico State won the team title with 220 1/2 points.
